Unexpected Blessings: Finding Hope in the Hopeless

Randy's Story

Randy found himself, at 49 years old, diagnosed with both Stage IV Colon Cancer and Thyroid Cancer. And yet, he had no fear and no complaints against God. “I’ve looked at cancer as being quite the blessing all these years,” he says.

“When I ended up coming up with cancer, I feel that having gone through the Men’s Frat class gave me the strength to get through.”

Randy attended church when he was younger, but he didn’t really understand what it was all about until he met his father-in-law. Randy watched as his wife’s father lived with Jesus at the center of his life, and he felt a call to learn how he could do the same.

This inspired Randy to begin attending Men’s Frat and learning how to be the man God called him to be. “When I ended up coming up with cancer, I feel that having gone through the Men’s Frat class gave me the strength to get through.” Randy recalls.

After his Thyroid surgery, doctors discovered Randy’s heart was in AFib, and that he could have easily had a stroke, heart attack, or even died on the operating table. Shortly after, the doctor revealed that his heart had gone back into its regular rhythm. “I turned to him,” Randy says, “And I said, ‘well, it’s definitely an answer to prayer.’"
